"And it was at this age ... Poetry arrived in search of me!" - Neruda
Dear Educator,
April is National Poetry Month and what better way to celebrate poetry than with a Poetry Writing Palooza!!!
Do you think your students have what it takes to write winning prose? We want to hear from them! Whether it is a Haiku, Acrostic, Sonnet, Ode or Slam, it doesn't matter. What does matter is your students' poems about their favorite assignment, resource, project or some aspect of Renzulli Learning. Winning poems will be selected to win a classroom technology bundle (valued at over $600.00). The student who wrote the poem will receive an MP3 player and their teacher will receive two netbook computers for students to use in the classroom. I know, I know… some of you may have testing coming up or are in the midst of it now and are not sure where to fit a contest in. But it’s something your students can work on in between tests and if they finish early, as a homework assignment, or during classroom writing lessons! Time-Saving Tip! Use the Renzulli Learning Assignment Template “Poetry Writing Palooza Contest” to help your students start writing their poems today! The assignment template contains great poetry resources for all age groups and the Poetry Writing Palooza Entry Form. POETRY WRITING PALOOZA DEADLINE – FRIDAY, MAY 7TH BY 5PM EASTERN TIME Please refer to the Poetry Writing Palooza Rules, Terms, and Conditions listed on the entry form for details. Also, attached is an announcement flyer. So make Poe proud! Send us your students’ poems - any type, any format. They could just end up being the next Tennyson or Silverstein!
